IT Accessibility in Boarding School

Dear Boarders,

The 7th Boarders Council is concern about the issue of the lack of internet accessibility in the boarding school. As most of you would have known, the 7th Boarders Council and the HCIBS Management have jointly launched the HCIBS_WLAN as our official wireless network but only on the groundlevel due to technical and financial constraints. This establishment is merely a stepping stone of the council's effort and passion to fulfill your welfare needs, we will need more than that. Recently, the council has been given the greenlight to increase internet accessibility in the boarding school. We have thought of two ways of doing so, they are:

1. Open another computer lab.

2. Increase the wireless coverage to all floors.

Due to budget constraints, it is an either/or decision. We would like to gather your opinion on this issue. Just click on "comments" and tell us what decision you think is most suitable and why. Go beyond your own interests and think of the boarding school as a whole. Please state your name and cluster, your suggestions are important to the council.

Seems like I'm the first one leaving comment here. Hahaz.

Anywhere, just to let you know - YouTube seems to be banned by our hostel's wireless network. And the reason given is that "The link you are accessing has been blocked because it contains content belonging to the category of: Comics, Humor, & Jokes".

That's truly humorous.

You mean "comics, humor and jokes" are banned in our hostel? If that's the case, I guess I should just stop telling lame jokes.

No sarcasm intended.

Anyways, I think extending the wireless coverage area is better than opening up another computer room, which may take a while. But the drawback is that if everyone uses the wireless at the same time, I think most likely our school's network will just break down.

P.S.: A lot of boarders actually blog. Maybe you should advertise this blog more. I guess most people don't even know the existence of this blog. =)

better if extend wireless. Even if I have no laptop I also need to use com room. If open another also need maybe about few months? by the way if more people use wireless, less people go to com room. however, there are over 1000(?)boarders and half of them got laptop. 500 people using 18 coms? lol. and a few of them got problem.
sometimes only a few people go to youtub than the whole internet lag like siao...

hi.

i would like to ask several questions.

1) how many computers will be if hcibs open a new computer lab?

2) what can you do to prevent viruses, spywares from attacking the computers?

3) how about the speed of the wireless network? will it be as fast as the current speed?

4) why is baidu blocked?

however, i still prefer extending the wireless network to all floor.

:)
